Supporting Swinburne University’s Professional Placement Program

McLean Delmo Bentleys has had a long and successful partnership with Swinburne University for in excess of 20 years initially hosting students in our firm for a paid 12 month placement as they study their degree.

A professional placement assists students to apply the theory learned during studies in a practical, real work environment.  Our placement students are mentored and supported as they gain valuable technical and ‘life skills’ knowledge that will give them a competitive edge when they graduate.

Our mentors achieve a great sense of fulfilment as they witness the personal and professional progression of the students. The students in turn impact our firm in a truly positive way through their professionalism and commitment to learn. It’s so rewarding to see students gain confidence not only in their technical skills but in personal confidence and communication skills.

The placement program has been a successful recruitment tool for McLean Delmo Bentleys because our students stay with us for many years once they’ve graduated. We currently have new and senior staff who started at our firm as professional placement students.  They have grown with us and become a valued and integral part of our firm.

Faculty of Business and Law

Over the past 5 years we have been providing a prize to the Faculty of Business Law recognizing excellence in the academic year. The most recent prize was awarded to Albert Smart in recognition of the student with the highest mark in Accounting Theory in the 2015 year at an award ceremony held at the University on 15th June 2016.

Accounting Economics and Finance Department

Most recently Rohan Mansfield, Superannuation Partner and Michael Lavery, Director Financial Planning attended the University and spoke to a Financial Planning class. The discussion provided the students with an insight into a future career in Financial Planning linking the content of the course with the practical outcomes for their future employment.

We will continue to work with Swinburne and look forward to contributing to the growth of our young people as they start their career journey.
